Meet Talitah
Sharnaleese Pusal

Those who know Talitah — warmly called "Tali" or "Sharna" — understand that her strength is steady, grounded, and deeply rooted in hope for the future.

From an early age, she has faced challenges that could have easily dimmed her spirit — but with the unwavering love of her family, she has risen each time with grace. She is the eldest sister, the encourager, the protector, and the safe place for those she loves most.

With a natural gift for creativity, Tali aspires to become a Creative Director within Papua New Guinea's fashion and design industry — building a brand that celebrates and preserves PNG culture through modern, expressive storytelling. With her IT background, she also dreams of integrating technology into creative design, and of launching her own podcast where PNG youth can share stories and inspire one another.

Bone marrow biopsy confirmed T-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (T-ALL). Treatment begins immediately at St. Luke's Medical Center.

31 January 2026 — Complete Remission Achieved

Following Cycle 1 chemotherapy, bone marrow reassessment confirmed complete remission — a powerful and significant early milestone.

February – May 2026 — Chemotherapy Cycles 2–4 Completed

Hyper-CVAD consolidation chemotherapy cycles successfully completed. Talitah remained in remission throughout, cleared for transplant planning.

31 May 2026 — Compatible Donor Confirmed

Donor compatibility screening completed. A fully compatible stem cell donor confirmed. All pre-transplant evaluations completed for both donor and recipient.

Allogeneic Bone Marrow Stem Cell Transplant successfully performed. Donor stem cells successfully infused.

Blood counts progressively improved, confirming successful stem cell engraftment. Talitah is now in post-engraftment recovery with continued inpatient monitoring and specialist care.

Feb – May 2026 Successfully completed Hyper-CVAD Chemotherapy Cycles 2–4, including consolidation chemotherapy, supportive treatment, and continuous specialist monitoring. Completed chemotherapy pathway and remained in remission, allowing progression to transplant planning.
31 May 2026 Donor compatibility screening completed and a fully compatible stem cell donor confirmed. Comprehensive pre-transplant evaluations successfully completed for both donor and recipient. ✓ Cleared to proceed with allogeneic bone marrow transplantation.
9 Jun 2026 Stem cell collection and cryopreservation completed. Recipient stem cells successfully harvested and preserved.
11–17 Jun 2026 Conditioning regimen commenced, including Fludarabine, Melphalan and Total Body Irradiation (TBI). Prepared for bone marrow transplantation.
18 Jun 2026 Allogeneic Bone Marrow Stem Cell Transplant performed. ✓ Donor stem cells successfully infused.
19 Jun – 2 Jul 2026 Intensive Bone Marrow Transplant isolation period with immunosuppressive therapy, transfusions, and specialist monitoring. Ongoing engraftment monitoring and supportive care.
3–15 Jul 2026 Post-engraftment recovery and continued inpatient monitoring. ✓ Blood counts progressively improved, confirming successful stem cell engraftment.

Donor compatibility screening was completed and a fully compatible stem cell donor confirmed on 31 May 2026. Comprehensive pre-transplant evaluations were successfully completed for both donor and recipient — clearing the path to transplantation. For many leukaemia patients, finding a matched donor is the single greatest obstacle to treatment. For Talitah, that obstacle was overcome.

Talitah achieved complete remission status following her very first chemotherapy cycle — a remarkable and powerful early victory confirmed on 31 January 2026.
